Philips Norway
Building B2B + B2C Topical Authority for a Global Brand in a High-Trust Nordic Market
Industry: Consumer Electronics / Healthcare Technology
Market: Norway
Engagement: SEO 2021โ2024 โ AEO 2025โ2026
Services: Technical SEO ยท Multilingual Content Strategy ยท B2B Lead Generation ยท Answer Engine Optimization
The Situation
Philips Norway operates across two fundamentally different buyer journeys simultaneously: direct consumers researching home electronics and healthcare procurement professionals evaluating medical equipment. In 2021, both buyer segments had the same problem โ they couldn’t find Philips on the queries that mattered most to their purchase decision.
The Norwegian market has unique characteristics that generic SEO strategies miss: a high-trust consumer base that researches exhaustively before purchasing, strong preference for Norwegian-language content on commercial queries, and a tight-knit business community where brand reputation in search directly affects B2B deal velocity.
The brief: Own the research phase for both consumer and B2B buyers in Norway. Build content authority that converts.
Phase 1 โ SEO (2021โ2024)
The Approach
JMI’s audit identified a structural gap: Philips Norway’s site was largely translated global content, not locally optimized for Norwegian search behavior. Key category pages ranked for brand queries but were absent from the non-branded product research queries โ “luftrenser test” (air purifier review), “beste hรฅrtรธrrer” (best hair dryer) โ where purchase intent is highest.
Bilingual Technical Architecture (Q1โQ2 2021)
JMI overhauled hreflang implementation for Norwegian (nb-NO) and English (en-NO), eliminating indexing conflicts between the global Philips site and the Norway-specific domain. Crawl budget was recovered by properly scoping Norwegian pages and preventing global content duplication from cannibalizing local rankings.
Norwegian Commercial Content Programme (Q2 2021โ2023)
JMI developed a content strategy around Norwegian consumer research behavior, producing:
- Product category guides in Norwegian: “Beste luftrenser 2022 โ test og guide”
- Comparison content: “Philips vs Dyson luftrenser โ hvilken er best for norske hjem?”
- B2B content in English targeting healthcare procurement: “Medical-grade air purification for Norwegian healthcare facilities”
- Seasonal content aligned to Norwegian market patterns (winter respiratory season, summer cooling)
86 pieces of content across 14 product categories were produced, each built as a topical authority asset rather than a single-keyword page.
B2B SEO and Lead Generation (2022โ2024)
For Philips Norway’s healthcare and professional divisions, JMI built a B2B content layer targeting procurement research queries that Norwegian hospital and clinic administrators use โ technical specification content, compliance documentation optimized for search, and case study content targeting “medisinsk luftrenser sykehus Norge.”
Link Authority (2022โ2024)
71 editorial placements in Norwegian consumer technology and healthcare publications, building the local authority signals needed to compete against global comparison sites.

| Metric | Before (Q1 2021) | After (Q4 2024) | Change |

| Featured snippets (Norwegian queries) | 3 | 34 | +31 |
Phase 2 โ AEO (2025โ2026)
The New Dynamic
By 2025, Philips Norway was facing an emerging threat in both its buyer segments. Norwegian consumers were using Perplexity โ which has strong adoption in Nordic markets โ to get product recommendations directly. Healthcare procurement professionals, already meticulous researchers, were asking ChatGPT to compare medical equipment specifications and generate shortlists.
Philips Norway needed to be cited in these AI-generated answers, not just ranked in traditional search.
The AEO Approach
JMI implemented Product schema with Norwegian-market pricing and availability, FAQPage schema on all product guide content, and Speakable schema on key summary sections across both consumer and B2B pages. For the B2B layer, JMI created structured comparison documents and product summaries specifically formatted for AI extraction โ covering specification comparisons, compliance certifications, and procurement case studies.
46 new citations were secured in Norwegian and Nordic consumer tech review platforms and healthcare publications within 4 months.
AEO Results (2025โ2026)
| Metric | Before AEO (Q4 2024) | Result (Q2 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Perplexity citations on product queries (NO) | 3% | 69% |
| ChatGPT product recommendation inclusion | Not cited | Cited in 4 of 5 electronics comparison queries |
| Google AI Overview inclusions (Norwegian) | 8 queries | 57 queries |
| B2B procurement queries โ AI citation rate | 0% | 44% |
| Organic traffic (maintained despite AI shift) | 171,000/month | 183,000/month |
In Norway, buyers don’t trust a brand they can’t research thoroughly. JMI made sure that every time one of our potential customers researched our product category โ whether on Google, Perplexity, or ChatGPT โ they found Philips. The B2B lead growth over the SEO phase was exceptional. The AEO work has now put us in AI answers that our healthcare procurement clients use daily.
